Following last years successful Artificial Insemination course run by the Guernsey Goat Society, the Society are looking to import a liquid nitrogen tank with “straws” of Golden Guernsey semen going back generations. This Golden Guernsey genetic material will be used to father a new generation of kids and will significantly reduce the risk of inbreeding amongst this rare breed of goats on the island. There are fewer than a dozen male Golden Guernsey’s in the island. It is hoped that the tank will be in the island during the summer in good time for the 2010 breeding season.
The following dates have been announced for our annual show calendar. 28 July 2011 - Golden Guernsey Show at Saumaurez Park 30 July 2011 - Youngstock Show at Soucique 27 August 2011 – Guernsey Goat Society Annual Show at Oatlands
The 2009 Annual Show held at Oatlands was a great success with 39 goats exhibited across numerous categories. The award for Best in Show and Best Golden Guernsey went to Carduelis Dionysus owned by Trevor and Gwen Davies with the award for Best Kid going to Perelle's Ruby owned by Abbott and Gardener. Judging was done by Mr S.Thomas and the 2010 Annual Show is to again be held at Oatlands.
