Golden Guernsey’s should thrive with new “straws”
Following last years successful Artificial Insemination course run by the Guernsey Goat Society, the Society are looking to import a liquid nitrogen tank with “straws” of Golden Guernsey semen going back generations. This Golden Guernsey genetic material will be used to father a new generation of kids and will significantly reduce the risk of inbreeding amongst this rare breed of goats on the island. There are fewer than a dozen male Golden Guernsey’s in the island. It is hoped that the tank will be in the island during the summer in good time for the 2010 breeding season.
